Search Engine Optimisation - The Basics

Search engine ranking is not the only metric to measure though, being top of the search rankings is not much use if web traffic is low or low quality. By setting up an analytics account you enable yourself to do a number of key things. An analytics programme allows you to measure how many people are coming to your website, where they came from and what they searched for to get there.
Analytics programs aren't just for measuring the end results of an SEO campaign either, they can provide valuable information during the optimisation process.
